On SUNDAY, MAY 7th the 47th Annual Blessing of the Fleet took place at the memorial stack (Reedville) at 3:30pm (parade of boats) and 4:00pm (blessing service).
If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me. Psalm 139:9-10
This age-old tradition brings boats (and spotter planes) from near and far to be blessed by area ministers as the fishing season opens on the Lower Chesapeake Bay.
On a blustery afternoon, residents, fishermen, and visitors joined together for this uplifting event filled with inspirational blessings, Patriotic and spiritual songs, and a parade of fishing vessels from the region. The local American Legion post presented the colors and led the crowd in a moment of silence for the men lost at sea.
The Museum was one of the sponsors, along with St. Mary’s Episcopal Church and Omega Protein, Inc.
